Why I Do What I Do (Sometimes)

BY Editweapon @ January 14, 2008

Background
My wife Lindsay was feeling overwhelmed and anxious as she laid out by the pool on a lazy Saturday afternoon about 2 years ago. Honestly, I think she was a little pissed off at me for something, but how am I to remember that far back?

I walked out the back door with a 6 string, pad of paper, and some Coronas. “Let’s write a song together,” I said.

She penned the words, I wrote the music (and ripped off The Shins), and 3 hours later I walked out of the office with a home recording of the song, “Noise.”

Our New Band
We called our new band “i like you better when i drive” (she gets nauseous with my driving) complete with alter-egos from the UK and a MySpace page.

Everyone Loves It
This simple little ditty turned out to be everyone’s favorite song. So much for trying hard to write difficult sounding songs to impress your peers Patrick, just write sing-alongs for the folks! ;-)

PS – I built this, using Animoto, as an homage to my many influences, including the ones who birthed me recently. The last dozen pictures (after Buddy the dog) were supposed to be pictures of Lindsay and me since she’s been my muse (good times and bad) for the last 8 years.

But that plan didn’t exactly work out… Sorry Linds. I’ll still be in the band with you if you want. ;-)

PPS – The words Lindsay penned are a spot on description of what it’s like to be clinically manic, as in bipolar. And I know what that feels like now. (Have you read about the day I was born?)
